BEFORE YOU GO by Yaraqa
BEFORE YOU GO by Yaraqa
Before You Go plays with the experience of being a stranger in your hometown, through a walkable trail of performances in Gemmayzeh.
SYNOPSIS
With the Pilot of Yaraqa’s site-specific walkable trail of performances successfully completed in the Summer of 2022 in 3 different towns as part of the Network for Cultural Alliance Framework, Before You Go is to be adapted and set in Beirut during the IN-BETWEEN Festival.
Before You Go is a performance experience of roughly 100 minutes in the form of a walking trail, which starts at a meeting point in Gemayzeh. Interspersed with site-specific dance performances in public and private, outdoor and indoor spaces, Before You Go is a guided journey where reality and fiction blend together, transforming the common into an open field of possibilities.
Featuring:
Jadd Tank / Bassam Abou Diab / Zuhal & Hoedy / Reem Naamani & Alex Truglio/ and others.
Created by Yaraqa, Before You Go engages collaborators to co-create diverse performances that vary in contemporary dance & movement genres. They range from Ready-Made performances that are brought in by the artists and adapted to the space or created exclusively for the space, Process-Oriented presentations of works that are currently in the making, and Hypothetical performances which engage the audience’s imagination through the use of storytelling.
To allow us to maintain the intimacy and vulnerability that this experience emanates Before You Go will be performed 3 times due to the limited capacity of audience members per show. The exact meeting point will be shared 2 days before the set timing.
All ages are welcome though parental chaperone is encouraged due to potentially mature-content.
For differently-abled bodies, there is a potential of accessing a portion of the trail, as the first part includes stairs.
PARTNER
Yaraqa is a socio-cultural enterprise bringing together movement artists and creative & business professionals to collaborate and create impact in communities with movement & dance and generate opportunities for artists through incubation labs, creative productions, and development programs.
