MACAM was established as a non-profit organization in 2013. It is the first museum of modern and contemporary art in Lebanon.

The museum's main concern is Lebanese art heritage in its two aspects; the preservation of the memory of art, and the conservation and exhibition of artworks.

Its permanent collection PANORAMA of SCULPTURE in LEBANON showcases a century of sculpture presented through 250 artworks by seventy artists. Temporary

exhibitions show the best that art in Lebanon offers. Its outreach establishes it as the hub of art in Lebanon.

The museum functions are directed to all aspects of society:

- For the established artists it displays their works in the permanent exhibition, PANORAMA OF SCULPTURE IN LEBANON where seventy artists are showcased. The museum honors a prominent Lebanese artist every year by holding a retrospective exhibition of his works. The museum curated a retrospective exhibition of the bronze works of sculptor Zaven Hadichian in 2013, and a retrospective exhibition of the wood works of the sculptor Youssef Basbous in 2014 and a retrospective exhibition of the iron works of Boulos Richa in 2015.

- For the young artists the museum organizes competitions. The architecture students of six universities competed in the competition CONVERT A FACTORY INTO A MUSEUM in 2013. Thirty-six artists competed in the Bronze competition when the three winners received their models cast in bronze in 2014, and sixteen artists competed in the wood art competition in 2014.

- For school children the museum arranges guided tours of the museum with special colorful questionnaire for three age groups; 6-9, 9-12 and 12 and above, to be answered by each child. The visits end with a workshop of drawing, coloring modeling and constructions.

- For the youth the museum offers ART & NATURE CAMPING, including art and craft workshops.

- For the general public the museum throws light on one aspect of art every year. After the AGE OF BRONZE with an illustrated lecture about bronze casting, a competition and an exhibition in 2013, it presented in in 2014 the AGE OF WOOD with the same program. In 2015, the museum is focusing on the AGE OF IRON.

The museum is sustained by donations.
