SANAM — Beirut’s Hybrid Avant-Rock Force

SANAM is a Beirut-based sextet blending psych/krautrock, free improv, electronics, goth, and jazz with traditional Egyptian song and modern Arabic poetry. Formed after a 2021 collaboration with Faust’s Hans Joachim Irmler, the band solidified its sound during a rural Lebanon residency amid national turmoil.

Their debut album Aykathani Malakon (Mais Um Discos, 2023)—recorded fully live with no overdubs—earned acclaim from The Guardian, The Wire, BBC Radio 6, and Bandcamp Daily. The band followed with European shows, a live recording from London’s Café Oto, and a 2025 North American festival run.

SANAM released their second album with the legendary Canadian experimental label Constellation in September 2025, to critical acclaim, pushing their fusion of folklore, feedback, and freeform experimentation even further. 

And after a string of 23 shows throughout Europe this fall - they finish their tour here in Beirut, at KED Beirut.
