Resume Writing Workshop Outline
By Christelle El-Drouby
Duration: 90 minutes workshop + 30 minutes individual consultation
Summary
A Resume is the first and most important part in the hiring process. When a prospective employer or recruiter takes a glance at a Resume for just a few seconds, they are already forming their opinion of the potential candidate and would decide whether to shortlist or overlook the applicant. Through this workshop, participants will learn how to write a quality Resume that ensures a great first impression for the right position. While there is definitely room for individual variation, some things clearly work better than others and this is exactly what the participants will be exploring while I guide them step by step.
Learning Outcome
- Understanding the key elements of a well-written Resume
- Crafting an excellent Resume specific to each participant based on the Resume template provided
- Learning how to customize and modify the crafted Resume based on further experience and different job positions.
Topics Covered
- What’s the point of a Resume?
- General Guidelines
- The first draft
- Common Resume Components
- Language, style and format
- Targeting the Resume
- Recommendations and remarks
Methodology
The session will be very dynamic and interactive, supported by a presentation and a Resume template (both hard and soft copy). While I will be explaining the material and detailing each component, participants will simultaneously be taking notes on the Resume template handed to them in order to write their own later on at home. Participants will be given a few days to do so and will come back for an individual 30-minutes consultation with me to revise the new Resume and ensure that it is impeccable and as professional and customized as it can be.
