Experienced in the requirements of codes needed for this course: International Building Code (IBC), ASCE7, and AISC 360.
Licensed in three states OH, GA, & TX.

Course Summary

Comprehensive course in steel design for gravity and lateral forces based on American codes, standards, and design guides. The course will include solved examples and software modeling and design. A complete 3D ETABS model will be built throughout the course for analysis and member design. Connections will be designed using RAM Connections.

Beam Design	Flexural Design for the limit states of fully plastic, lateral torsion buckling (LTB), and flange and web local buckling’s. Shear Design of compact beam and plate girders
Column Design	Design of pure axial compression Design for combined axial and flexure Effect of global and local P-delta on member design Limit states of flexural bucking, LTB, and flexural LTB.
Lateral Force Resisting System (LFRS)	Moment frames (MF) Concentric and eccentric braced frames (BF) Sizing of members in both systems Choice of LFRS based on seismic design category Transfer of lateral forces from diaphragm to LFRS through collectors and chords
Connections	Simple shear connections (beam/girder, beam/column) Rigid moment Connections Braced frames connections Base plate connections
Concentrated Forces	Effect of concentrated forces on member sizing Address limit states of flange local bending, web local yielding, web crippling, web sideway buckling, web compression buckling, web panel zone shear. Use of stiffeners and doubler plates.
Composite Beams	Introduction to the concept of composite floor beams, its benefits, and the use of RAM Steel software of the composite beam design.
