RemAID by FabricAID x ESMOD
No upcoming event dates
GardenState , Beirut, Lebanon
The fashion exhibition will showcase over 100 unique vintage items that have been refashioned as part of FabricAID’s upcycling initiative.
As you may already know, FabricAID’s beneficiaries are marginalized communities who tend to dress conservatively with no demand for certain types of clothing such as shorts, skirts, and revealing dresses.
This is why revealing, yet fine items have been redesigned by the talented ESMOD students and sewed by Sawa for Development and Aid's women refugee tailors.
This initiative is truly one-of-a-kind and is not to be missed. So make sure to bring your friends along too.
Perhaps you’ve been feeling like treating yourself or your loved ones recently? Our unique, handmade dresses are the perfect items for that!
Items showcased at the show will be on sale on site for prices ranging from USD 50 to USD 150.
What’s more, the entry ticket value (USD 30) is to be deducted from the price of your first purchased item.
There will be an open bidding contest for some of the most unique dresses (Even though each of the dresses is a unique specimen).
FabricAID is a Lebanese social enterprise that was established in July 2017.
FabricAID developed a sustainable solution to tackle the salient problems of unaffordable clothing for underprivileged communities and fabric waste in Lebanon.
In a nutshell, FabricAID collects second-hand clothes from local NGOs, institutions, or through smart clothing collection bins that have been set up in various highly-frequented locations around Lebanon.
For each kilogram of clothes collected, USD 0.5 is forwarded directly to one of FabricAID’s Partner NGO or to a partnering charity of the donor’s choice.
Collected clothes appropriate for reuse are diligently graded, sorted into over 70 categories, and cleaned in FabricAID’s warehouse in Wardeneieh, which has a capacity of processing 1,000 kilograms per day.
Subsequently, clothes are sold either through one of FabricAID’s own permanent second-hand shops or at pop-up markets that FabricAID establishes weekly in partnership with local authorities and NGOs, primarily in disenfranchised communities.
Prices range from USD 0.33 to a maximum of USD 2.
Clothing that is unfit for reuse is upcycled in two innovative ways: either, it is remodeled into unique and fashionable vintage attire (RemAID by FabricAID) or it is shredded into tiny pieces and finds its way into pillows, chairs, couches, and mattresses.
Within the last few months, FabricAID has sold 25,000 clothing items to 5,000 beneficiaries for an average price of USD 0.9 per item through its pop-up markets and permanent second-hand clothing shops across Lebanon. We have also won numerous social venture and startup competitions around the world.
