About the Speakers:
Dr. George Sakr
Dr. George E. Sakr received the BE degree (with distinction) in electrical and electronics engineering from Lebanese University, Roumieh, in 2005, the MS degree in networking and telecommunications from the joint program between the Lebanese University and St. Joseph University of Beirut in 2007 and the PhD degree in Machine Learning from the American University of Beirut in 2011. Between 2011 and 2015 George was a Lecturer at AUB and the Lebanese American University as well as a post-doctoral fellow at the Medical Center of the American University of Beirut where he worked on applying machine learning for precision medicine. Since 2015, George has been an assistant professor at St Joseph University of Beirut. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, human machine interfacing, and application of machine learning for precision medicine. He is a member of the IEEE since 2008. He has more than 20 journal and conference publications in the domain of machine learning and heart healthcare.
Samir El Zein
Samir EL ZEIN had 10 year experience in academic research and 10 years experience in online trading before founding Neotic. Graduated from the university of Lyon in France in 2005 with a Ph.D. in quantum physics and 20 published papers in high ranked peer reviewed journals. He also managed a small fund for family and friends on the US markets, trading with US brokers like Interactive-brokers and E-trade. Samir dedicated the last 5 years of his life on the customization of artificial intelligence for automated trading, attracting local and international investors to his company Neotic.ai, servicing essentially US based customers. He is now 40 years old, assisting entrepreneurs in his community via the Tripoli Entrepreneurs Club, in which he is a founding member.
Jad el Boustani
Prior to joining MEVP in July 2012, Jad worked as Project Manager at Truffle Capital as part of the Venture Capital Tech Team in Paris during which, he assisted in fundraising efforts and in the expansion of a build-up of startups specialized in mobile services. Prior to that, Jad worked as a financial analyst in the M&A department of Bank Lazard Brothers with a focus in EMEA Telecom and Technology.
In 2010, he served as an auditor in the Finance division of General Electric Healthcare. Jad's experience in Lebanon includes working as an analyst and developer at NavLink and as an IT developer at Societe Generale. Jad holds a degree in Telecom and Computer Engineering from the Lebanese University, and an MBA (with a finance and private equity emphasis) from the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales, ESSEC (France).
