Discover newspapers in a new way! Explore daily local newspapers – the stories, visual language, and feeling of the paper – to inspire you to tell a story through a picture. Led by Joseph Kai, kids will work together to analyze, interpret, and express a reaction to the newspaper’s content visually. They will be encouraged to insert a personal opinion in their work in the form of an illustration. The workshop entails learning how to represent ideas using quick, simple, and efficient drawings or typographies.
At the end of the workshop, all the material will be complied into a handmade booklet, or fanzine, to take home.
This workshop is programmed in conjunction with the exhibition Pierre Sadek: Picturing History.
Joseph Kai is an independent illustrator, comics author, and editor-in-chief of Samandal.
