This month's edition of the Berytech Meetups Powered by GIST highlights the rise of Virtual Reality with guest speakers: 

Elie-Grégoire Khoury, CEO of Dermandar, will provide an overview about the rising industry of virtual reality, the new technologies that are being used and how it changed the way we perceive things. He will tackle his experience with launching Dermandar, the successes, the challenges faced and the lessons learned. 

Lara Noujaim, Marketing Director of Game Cooks, will show how VR played a major role in distinguishing Game Cooks among competitors in the Gaming Industry. She will also discuss what were the challenges faced, what are the opportunities, along with providing few tips and advice  to future entrepreneurs. 

John Chehaiber, Cluster Manager of Beirut Creative Cluster, a Beirut-based non-profit that makes it easier for creative companies in the ICT sector in Lebanon to collaborate to grow their business, will discuss BCC’s role in supporting VR Companies.

About The Speakers: 

Elie-Grégoire Khoury 

Elie graduated in Engineering from the Ecole Centrale in Paris and holds an aggregation in mathematics. He started his career at Renault R&D department where he worked on Virtual Reality and Driving Simulation back in 1994. Since the technology was not ready for VR, he switched to videogames, and was head of R&D at Ubisoft Entertainment in 2001. He founded Dermandar in 2010, a mobile application company specialized in 360 image creation for Virtual Tours.

Lara Noujaim

Lara is the Director of Publishing with Game Cooks, Lebanese VR gaming studio and team behind the first VR game title VINDICTA to be launched from the Middle East on the Oculus Rift and HTC VIVE. Today, Lara puts all her focus and passion on leading the gaming studio’s marketing and publishing efforts to create a strong position for Game Cooks in the Virtual Reality industry.

John Chehaibar

John co-curated TEDxBeirut. He toured 16 countries across MENA and Eastern Europe looking for promising startups with Seedstars. Now, he’s launching the biggest trade show for creative and digital agencies in the MENA region with Beirut Creative Cluster.
