RDV #57 : ‘Shifting Lights’ Exhibition guided visit at Beit Beirut
‘Shifting Lights’ is a coming together of three Lebanese artists - Afaf Zurayk, painter; Noel Nasr, photographer; and Rami Saab, architect - of different generations and different professional backgrounds who witnessed distinct social and artistic changes and upheavals. Through their collaborative installation of shifting light and space they engage in a quest for peace that emanates from Beit Beirut, once an epicenter of destruction.
‘Shifting Lights’ is an expression that recognizes that no two moments are alike, and that there is no constant light. It is a work that contains its own contradictions and hangs in the balance between darkness and light.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1948, Afaf Zurayk is an artist as well as a painter and writer. She has published three books in addition to her many solo exhibitions both in Beirut and Washington DC.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1978, Noel Nasr is a photographer and the coordinator of the Photography Program at Notre Dame University-Louaizé (NDU) since 2007. His artwork is mostly inspired from his daily life experiences and is often for therapeutic motives.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1991, Rami Saab is an architect currently pursuing his Master of Design Studies degree at Parsons School of Design in New York. Rami is interested in the intersection of design thinking with our urban and built environment, with a focus on socially responsible design practices.
