What is the workshop about?
The workshop will cover all aspects of IoT, with focus on the following:
- What is IoT and how it is changing society and businesses.
- How did IoT begin and where it came from.
- IoT in the Lebanese market: products, startup-ups, stakeholders and initiatives.
- What are the applications of IoT?
- What are the protocols used in the IoT field?
- How to connect devices securely to the cloud?
- How to use IoT platforms (Adafruit IO platform, ThingSpeak and Blynk Platform).
- Practice exercise: control devices and monitor data remotely using the provided kit.
- What's the next step after this workshop?
What does the participant expect from this workshop?
At the end of this workshop, participants will have learned about all IoT aspects, challenges and opportunities. In addition, they will be able to prototype any IoT device using the provided kit.
Do I need to buy any kit?
No. Participant will be given a Kit to work with. The kit contains the following parts:
- A NodeMCU IoT chip (embedded processor, memory, WiFi Antenna, GPIO and Analog to Digital Converter).
- LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes).
- Jumper wires and Breadboards.
- Sensors and potentiometers.
- Multiplexer.
What should I bring with me?
Only your computer and smartphone. We will make all the hands on sessions on the computer using the Arduino IDE and the smartphone.
Dates and Venue:
The workshop will be held at the BDD facilities (BDD1075 Ground Floor) on Friday 07 April : from 05h00 PM until 09h00 PM and Saturday 08 April from 09h00 AM until 06h00 PM.
About the trainer:
Dr Hassan Nasser is the author of the first "internet of things" workshop in Lebanon, the founder of Xplor Technologies and an Engineering assistant professor. He holds a BE in industrial engineering and a PhD in computer science from the Polytech Nice Sophia Antipolis, France.
After seven years working and doing research in the largest European technopark, Sophia-Antipolis, he worked as an assistant professor at the SupInfo international University and Polytechnique Sophia-Antipolis. Since 2015, Dr Nasser is teaches at several Lebanese Universities and has founded Xplor Technologies Lebanon. He also spoke about IoT in several national and regional conferences such as ArabNet 2017.
